About Val

Hey there! I’m Val. The Gem Gal.

Happily obsessed with gems and jewelry! If you’re hooked on sparkly things, well….. me too! My intense curiosity (and obsessive need for documentation) was what got me to start this blog in the first place. If you’re a big jewelry fan like me, I’m so happy you’re here! This is a safe haven for all gem gals and guys, so come on in and take look around.

I’m an official gemologist (GGGIA), and lover of books, art, history, and style. Probably far too much of my free time is spent on jewelry. But hey, I’m having fun! So come along. My goal is to create a place for gem and jewelry lovers to learn and explore. Hopefully, you’ll find out something new (or at least cool or interesting) while you’re here.

Check out my some of my posts and don’t be afraid to leave a comment. I love hearing from readers! I write about anything and everything related to jewelry – lab grown diamonds, why you should never buy a ruby from Macy’s, what rose gold is and why you see it everywhere, the history of roses in jewelry, and some cool things I found out about dragons in jewelry.

I’m a real person, I promise, and I’d love to hear from you! Like my Facebook page, follow me on Pinterest or instagram, or connect with me on LinkedIn. If you want to hear more about my journey as a gemologist and a blogger and other cool stuff, sign up to be on my email list (subscribe at the top off this page).

And as always, if you have thoughts or questions about gemstones or jewelry, email me at val@valthegemgal.com. Who knows? Maybe I’ll write about your topic for a future blog post!
