Award season is here, gem gals! That means all the stars get decked out all fancy, and I get to see all sorts of sumptuous jewelry. Yummy! I’m here to tell you the Golden Globes did not disappoint! There were some completely jaw-dropping pieces that made me drool. So let’s get to it, shall we?
A night for emeralds
First of all, I was so happy to see all the great emeralds! A lot of times the red carpet is just saturated with diamonds. Not that I don’t like diamonds, but I love to see colored gemstones! First off, we have Jodie Comer, who I had never even heard of, but I guess she’s in Killing Eve, and plays an assassin. Not only did I love the emeralds, I loved the way the enamel was used to create this matchy-mismatchiness (yes, I just made those words up). So unique and cool!
Michelle Yeoh was just a vision, all decked out in some stunning pieces. She wore her own emerald ring, which was featured in the movie Crazy Rich Asians. Then there was her diamond necklace. And her bracelet. And her pretty clutch. You go girl!
And I could not get enough of the Chopard emerald earrings that Saoirse Ronan wore. Hello, dripping with diamonds!
I am finding that I usually LOVE what jewelry Octavia Spencer brings to the table, and tonight was no exception. Check out her emerald ring and earrings. That ring must be huge! Love it!
Catherine Zeta-Jones is someone you can always count on to bring her A-game to the red carpet. She looked stunning, as usual, with Lorraine Schwartz emerald and diamond earrings. But don’t forget her massive emerald ring. Wowza!
I have been seeing chokers for a while now. Remember when Michelle Williams wore a simple black velvet ribbon as one on the red carpet two years ago? Simple and beautiful. At the Golden Globes this year, four actresses all wore very beautiful, and yet very different chokers. Yvonne Strahovski from The Handmaid’s Tale wore a diamond choker from Lorraine Schwartz (read more about Lorraine here), Kiki Layne from If Beale Street Could Talk wore a pink gold and diamond choker by Bulgari (this one might be my personal favorite!), Rachel Weisz wore a Cartier choker with coral, onyx, and diamonds. And Constance Wu from Crazy Rich Asians wore a diamond choker by Messika.
Best diamond bracelets
It’s really too bad that people focus on the necklaces and earrings, because there were some gorgeous diamond bracelets. My pick for the two best were Sandra Oh and Kristen Bell. Both women looked fabulous in their dresses, but right away I focused on the bracelets.
And I love how they stacked them! More is better, for sure!
Coolest bracelet of the evening
I’ll admit it, I have a thing for snake jewelry. And this diamond snake bracelet was really perfect! I loved how it went with her other diamond jewelry. Tariji from Empire just rocked this whole look!
Best hair jewelry
I loved seeing all the amazing hair jewelry! There definitely seemed to be a vintage feel going on. First up was Ryan Michelle Bathe, with a diamond pin holding her bun. Plus, check out that huge pink rock she has!
Both Emily Blunt (from A Quiet Place and Mary Poppins Returns) and Danai Gurira (from Black Panther and The Walking Dead) wore diamond pins in their hair. And Joanna Newsom (her husband Andy Samburg was hosting the awards show) was wearing vintage Flato brooches in her hair! All so pretty!
There were far too many great earrings to go through. But I thought I’d highlight a couple. I loved the simple geometry of Halle Berry’s gold triangles, and Lupita Nyong’o’s Bulgari diamonds.
I also loved the movement of Jessica Chastain’s Piaget fan earrings and Debra Messing’s SABBA titanium and diamond swirl-y ones.
Best diamond necklaces
So on the red carpet, you really can’t go wrong with a diamond necklace. Most people were talking about the ones worn by Dakota Fanning, in vintage Beladora, and Lady Gaga. Tiffany custom made the necklace for Gaga alone. It has over 100 carats of diamonds.
You also had Island Fisher and Elizabeth Moss proving that a diamond necklace and a little black dress are a winning combo!
Best Colorful Necklace
I have loved Allison Janney forever! And this necklace just blew me away! A colorful show stopper from David Webb.
Best Brooch Game
My hat is off to Alex Borstein (from The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel), who used her diamond brooches strategically to highlight the gorgeous color of her dress. Bravo!
And the man who wore a cape!
I never want to forget men who have serious style. So I am literally in awe of Billy Porter (from the FX series, Pose)! He’s got style in spades! I don’t know where to focus – the brooches from Oscar Heyman, the Gucci shoes, the embroidered cape!
What do you think, gem gals? Tell me some of your favorites!
